Homeowner Spotlight: Carrie B.
Imagine having no running water in your kitchen. What if you had to crawl up and down your stairs because you were disabled and had no railing to prevent a fall? Homeowner Carrie B. has lived in her home for 33 years but hadn’t entered her kitchen for many of them. She had cabinets but no money to install them. Suffering from heart disease and diabetes, Ms. B. could not maintain safe and healthy home repairs.
RTP replaced her kitchen sink, installed wall and base cabinets, put in a new kitchen floor, installed a new handrail on the main stairs, and provided fire safety equipment.
“[Ms. B] lit up like a bright light… When the railing was going up, she was brought to tears.”
“When [Ms. B.] heard the sink running, she lit up like a bright light and got so excited… When the railing was going up, she was brought to tears,” shared the RTP contractor working in her home.
Rebuilding Together Philadelphia’s repairs go beyond physical improvements to restore security and self-reliance.
