[Re]Builders Make an Impact in Parkside!
On Saturday, October 17th RTP staff and 30 [Re]Builders constructed and installed six raised beds in Viola Street Community Garden, one of the City’s oldest community plots. Volunteers helped make this vibrant space more accessible for seniors on the block, like homeowner Naomi Smith, 84, who has been gardening there for 40 years.
By improving and beautifying this vital greenspace, residents will be able to grow food and collectively come together.
Some highlights from the project:
RTP accepted a generous gift of $75,000 from the Bellwoar family, which has already made a huge impact on the health and safety of our homeowners at a time of critical need.
PA State Representative Roni Green, Councilwoman Jamie Gauthier and Councilmember Kendra Brooks shared their appreciation for your commitment to help make a difference in the neighborhood. They also had a chance to meet several Viola Street homeowners.
Councilwoman Jamie Gauthier announced that the Viola Street Community Garden has been entered into the Neighborhood Gardens Trust, making it a permanent greenspace for the Parkside community.
Huge applause to M&T Bank and Resource Real Estate sticking with us and shining at the project!
