Board Member Spotlight: Marty Josephs
“Three words that I would use to describe RTP are: mission-critical, commitment and passion.” – Marty Josephs
Meet Martin (Marty) Josephs, a recent addition to the Rebuilding Together Philadelphia (RTP) Board, already a seasoned [Re]Builder. Although one of RTP’s newest Board members, he has already volunteered at three Block Builds, an MLK Day of Service, an Asthma Trigger Reduction project and RTP’s 10th Annual Run to Rebuild.
A little over two years ago, Marty retired from his role as president of Ingerman, a real estate development, construction and management company focused in the affordable housing sector. When asked what initially drew him to RTP, Marty explained that he was introduced to RTP by the nonprofit Team Rubicon, which frequently promotes and participates in RTP Block Builds.
“At the event, I heard [RTP President & CEO] Stefanie [Seldin] explain the mission and work of RTP which inspired me…”
During the 2019 Haddington Block Build Marty introduced himself to Stefanie and, after a series of follow-up conversations and meetings, Marty joined the Board in July 2020.
Marty shares that some of his proudest moments as a Board Member include being able to contribute at the rebuilding day projects that he has attended. He is also happy that he was able to visit the RTP office, meet staff and connect with fellow Board Members in person.
While he is disappointed not to be able to volunteer in person because of the pandemic, Marty has been able to continue working behind the scenes with fellow Board members, as well as enjoy his hobbies and other interests such as woodworking, gardening, and playing golf.
When asked to describe Rebuilding Together Philadelphia, Marty chose three words—mission-critical, commitment and passion, which he explained in the following way:
“Mission-critical: The work the organization does and the impact that it has in the homes of those that it serves, it’s critical that folks can stay in their homes with the enhanced living and safety features.
“Commitment: The commitment to RTP’s mission and making a difference in the underserved communities and Philadelphia.
“Passion: The joy that you can feel when you go to a volunteer day. Everyone is joyful in participating and being able to give back to the community and provide services to folks who sometimes may not have the capability to stay in their homes.”
In closing, Marty wanted to add that, “I am very impressed and touched with the commitment of the staff and their dedication to the mission, the level of engagement and the quality of the Board Members, and the general impact that RTP has had in the community over the years.”
Thank you for your service, Marty!
