| Based on its amazing experience with Rebuilding Together New Orleans in 2009, Popular Mechanics asked to sponsor RTP. Through a special Block Build, RTP and PM will help a neighborhood "go green." A few homeowners will receive significant improvements designed to reduce their energy consumption dramatically. The rest of the block will receive less expensive, but high-impact improvements as well as the tools and education that will lead to ongoing cost savings. Learn more. |
Michael Kane (above with Walnut Hill neighbors) has helped redefine “skilled” volunteer. She's been our resident expert on “going green” since introduced to RTP last May during the HGTV veterans' project. On Rebuilding Days, she often leads the transformation of mud and weeds into a community garden. Behind the scenes, she's been getting in-kind product donations, and has begun to build partnerships that will add depth to our energy-efficiency projects. Learn more. |
Sandra Pugh and her mother-in-law Mamie Pugh are receiving significant energy-efficient upgrades as part of the special Popular Mechanics Block Build. Key projects for Sandra include ceiling fans, a white roof, and rain barrels. Key projects for Mamie include a solar hot water heater, improved insulation, and energy-efficient appliances. Sandra says “This has united our block. We're doing things for each other and patching here and there already.” Learn more about the Pughs and this Build. |
